| About the
Colburn National Foundation
The Colburn National
Foundation is a registered 501(c) 3 not-for-profit New
York State public charity dedicated to children with
disabilities and their families who reside within a 50-mile
radius of Saratoga Springs, New York. The Foundation
provides resources for financially-challenged families
in order to promote independence and passionate
participation for individuals 21 and younger.
Colburn National Foundation, named in honor of a young man
who sustained a permanent disability,
assists those disabled by birth-related or accidental
traumas, neurological impairments, bone and joint disorders,
acquired brain injury, congenital anomalies and metabolic
and growth disorders. The Foundation’s mission is to
fund treatment, therapy and/or equipment that is rarely
covered by in-place agencies, such as insurance companies,
community service programs or Medicaid.
Because children grow so
quickly, the best techniques and earliest medical
intervention can have a profound and lifelong effect.
Therefore, the Colburn promise is to provide, wherever
possible, funds for accessibility projects, adaptive
equipment such as electric wheelchairs, strollers,
specialized bicycles, and tricycles.
In addition, the Foundation funds travel expenses to
out-of-area specialists and treatment centers, supports
research that develops/implements new and validated
treatments and sponsors symposia and conferences for family
and community education. Colburn’s fervent hope is that
these children, through movement and participation, will
become vital contributors to their communities.
Our service area
includes the counties of Albany, Fulton, Montgomery,
Rensselaer, Saratoga, Schenectady, Warren and Washington.
